TEN CENTURIES OF LIFE, DEATH AND RENAISSANCE
The epic tale of the noble Malbec strain is like no other, and the Catena Zapata Argentine Malbec label pays tribute to the variety's history in France and its subsequent rise in Argentina. The four female figures represent the different milestones in the history of this variety. The first woman, who symbolizes the birth of Malbec, is Eleanor of Aquitaine, “a strong Old World presence”, represented next to the Cahors bridge, where Malbec originated. The second woman, an immigrant, symbolizes the settlers who migrated to the New World and the unknown explorers and adventurers who connected Europe with America. Phylloxera represents the death of Malbec in the Old World and its subsequent rebirth in America. Finally, there is Doña Zapata, symbolized by Adrianna Catena, who represents birth, earth and motherhood, sharing the riches of the New World. Today, the fourth generation of the Catena family is leading the Malbec renaissance in the high altitude vineyards of Argentina. We are returning Malbec to heaven, where it belongs.

    DESCRIPTION

No matter what the vintage is, this wine is actually over 100 years old. It represents the journey undertaken by a family to produce an Argentine Malbec that could compete with the best wines in the world.

    Winemaking
Fermentation in new French oak barrels, from 225 to 500 liters; 20% fermentation of whole bunches. The whole grains, manually dumped into the barrels, ferment for 30 days in them, achieving a perfect fruit / wood integration. Low fermentation temperatures for greater extraction of aromatic components. Manual pumping over tasks for gentle and gentle extraction of flavors and tannins. Indigenous yeasts. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in barrels favors the precipitation of lees and sediments. After the fermentation period, the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
